Rockwall, Texas

On a cloudless summer evening, the setting sun produces dazzling beams of orange and pink. Sailboats bobbing in the calm waters of a vast lake make for a picturesque scene. A crowd has gathered in the middle of a historic district to listen to the electric guitars and drums. These images characterize Rockwall, Texas, a thriving city located 25 miles east of Dallas on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard.

Despite its proximity to Houston, one of Texas’ largest cities, Rockwall feels like a traditional small town. Historic buildings, quaint boutiques, and gourmet eateries abound in the city’s downtown, and The Harbor Rockwall, the city’s largest shopping center, is one of the best places to go in all of Dallas.

Although people have been residing in the area around Rockwall for thousands of years, the town itself wasn’t established until 1854. The original settlers of Rockwall, Texas, came across a mysterious rock wall while digging wells in 1851. The town has always served as the county seat of Rockwall County, Texas’s smallest (and fastest-growing) county.

Rockwall has developed into a thriving city with many attractions. The town hosts an impressive array of musical events, from one-day festivals to multi-month series that are sure to please any fan of live music. Some of the best variety and tribute bands in the area perform at these events, such as the Concert by the Lake series and the Rockwall Founder’s Day Festival. At Rockwall, there are concerts for about half the year. It’s no surprise the area is heralded as North Texas’ “Live Music Capital.” Don’t forget to learn about Rowlett, Texas here too.

Rockwall is a fantastic place to visit if you want to spend time in the great outdoors. There is no activity that cannot be enjoyed at Lake Ray Hubbard, which spans 22,000 acres and is the perfect backdrop for any vacation. First of all, there are plenty of bass and catfish in the lake, making it a prime fishing spot near Dallas. Lake Ray Hubbard is a popular destination for water sports like sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing, and the parks along its shoreline feature public boat ramps.

Rockwall is a beautiful city with a lot to offer visitors, including a lake, a trendy bar and restaurant district called The Harbor, and a downtown full of unique shops and restaurants. A couple of miles outside of Rockwall’s main drag, you’ll find both a craft brewery (Siren Rock Brewing Company | Destination Craft Brewery) and a world-class winery (San Martino Winery & Vineyards). Both establishments feature tasting rooms where one can enjoy one’s time while trying out the goods and conversing with like-minded people.

Rockwall has a beautiful lake, a quaint downtown, and a buzzing music scene.
